*This post was sponsored by the Hilton Palacio de Rio, but all opinions are my own. *
As long as Cedrric and I have been dating, and been married, we have never had a staycation in San Antonio. Can you believe that? We are both HUGE travelers, and our traveling usually consists of travels outside of our city. However, with all the beautiful things to do now in San Antonio, when the HiltonPalacio del Rio agreed to host us for the weekend, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be tourists in our own city and show you around SanAntonio.
We felt so welcomed at theHilton Palacio del Rio! When we arrived, we saw our photo on an LCD display as we walked through the Hilton Palacio del Rio. We also had a handwritten note from the manager welcoming us to the property along with a tray of chocolate truffles that were oh so good! We had a river side view, and the accommodations were amazing!
One of my favorite things about the property was the coffee shop that served Starbucks coffee. If you know me, I need to have my daily Americano! Additionally, I loved the floor to ceiling windows! They brought so much light into the property that I never felt like I was in a closed in, boxy environment. There was local blow glass decorating the walls, from a local glass gallery located on the Southside of San Antonio and a lounge area that had the most gorgeous collection of horse saddles.
Our accommodations at the Hilton Palacio del Rio were amazing! Our room had a balcony! The best thing about the Hilton Palacio del Rio, is that ALL of the rooms have private balconies! A private balcony made our room feel that much more special! The hotel itself, is a modular hotel, the first of it’s kind here in San Antonio. This means that each room was built off site and then assembled to create the hotel that we know today. You can check out a video all about the design here.
WHAT TO DO
Riverboat Tour
We began by taking a river boat tour by GO RioCruises. There are multiple pick up points up and down the Riverwalk, but if you are staying at the HiltonPalacio del Rio, you can buy tickets right across from the hotel! Exit the hotel on the Riverwalk side, walk over the bridge, and the Go Rio dock is right there. For residents, a tour down the Riverwalk is only $10, but there is a military and senior discount available as well that will get you a ticket for $9. You can view a full list of the most up to date pricing and purchase tickets here.It was so much fun! This is a navigated tour that transitions you through time, telling the story of how the Riverwalk came to be. The tour lasts about 45 minutes, and it’s a must do while down on the Riverwalk.
Durty Nelly’s
Hilton’s own Durty Nelly’s Irish Pub is a fun and lively pub spot all year long! You can have a drink there and enjoy some fun. It’s also a Riverwalk favorite during St. Patrick’s day as well. While there, don’t forget to use the hashtag #DurtyNotDirty ! The best part is, you’re right next to your hotel, so your room will never be far away.
La Villita
La Villita is located right next door to the Hilton Palacio del Rio, and there is always something fun going on there. It’s home to many local shop owners, so you are able to spend some time strolling around and shopping. Outside of that, it hosts the Coffee Festival every year, which is one of my favorite events to attend! The weekend we stayed, we just so happened to walk into a Shakespeare performance at the amphitheater there. That’s one of the things I love most about San Antonio, is that there is always something to do on any given day of the week.
WHERE TO EAT
The River’s Edge Café connects right to the hotel and you can dine al fresco to overlook the river, just as the name suggests. With a completely re-vamped menu, I had the most amazing chicken piccata while sipping on some wine and enjoying all the people passing by.
So, when you are in San Antonio, make sure to stay at the Hilton Palacio del Rio. The Hilton is perfect for any occasion! Between the friendly staff, to the amenities of the coffee bar, lounge areas, and having a room with a view, it cannot be beat!
